Cleaning and Maintenance
-
How do I clean my nebulizer maintenance cup?
After disconnecting the nebulizer medication cup from the tubing, disassemble your nebulizer medication cup and wash all parts with warm water and liquid dish soap. DO NOT WASH THE TUBING. Rinse the parts thoroughly with warm water and let air dry.
Reassemble your nebulizer parts when dry and store away until next use. You can also wash your reusable nebulizer cup on the top shelf of a dishwasher. Disassemble the parts of the nebulizer cup and place in a dishwasher basket on the top rack. Dry and store away the nebulizer cup until next use.
-
Can I disinfect my nebulizer medication cup?
You can disinfect your nebulizer medication cup by soaking all parts (except mask and tubing) in a solution of 1 part distilled white vinegar and 3 parts hot tap water for an hour. Rinse all parts thoroughly with warm tap water and let dry. Your nebulizer parts (except mask and tubing) can also be disinfected by boiling them in a clean pot of water for 10 minutes.
-
How do I clean my mask and tubing?
Never wash the tubing. The exterior of your tubing can be cleaned by wiping it down with a damp cloth. The mask included in your kit can also be cleaned by the use of a damp cloth.
-
How long should my treatment take?
Please note many factors can affect treatment times. A patient’s age, condition, breathing pattern, and medication can affect how long it takes to complete a full treatment. Generally speaking, the average 2.5 ml dose of albuterol should take between 5 and 7 minutes. A treatment should continue until the medication is gone or you hear a slight “sputtering” sound coming from the nebulizer cup.
-
I have condensation build up in my tubing.
If there is any condensation in the tubing, let the compressor run for 2 to 3 minutes without your medication cup attached. You can also try hanging the tubing with the ends facing down.
Compressor and Machine Problems
-
My compressor gets warm and shuts down during treatments.
It is natural for your compressor to feel warm to the touch during operation, but not hot. Please keep in mind the compressor you received is for single patient-use operation, and is not meant to be used for back-to-back treatments with multiple patients. If your compressor shuts down, simply unplug the compressor and let it cool down for 30 minutes before next use. If the compressor does not work after an hour, contact Neb Medical Services at (866)633-1597.
-
My tubing is stuck on the compressor.
Occasionally, the heat from the compressor will make the tubing stick to the compressor barb, especially if the tubing hasn’t been removed from the compressor in some time. If you are experiencing this problem, let the compressor run for a few minutes to warm up the tubing and then try to twist off the tubing (DO NOT TUG). If the problem persists, contact Neb Medical Services at (866)633-1597.
-
My machine doesn't turn on.
If your compressor doesn’t turn on, check the power cord and make sure it is firmly inserted in an outlet. You may have to try multiple outlets to confirm it is a compressor failure. If your compressor will not turn on after being idle for one hour, or you hear a low humming sound, contact Neb Medical Services at (866)633-1597.
-
My machine doesn't seem to blow out enough air.
If you feel that your compressor is not pushing enough air to properly nebulize the medication, disassemble your nebulizer cup and wash as instructed. Also inspect your tubing for any tears or punctures. After a thorough washing and reassembly, if the problem persists, contact Neb Medical Services at (866)633-1597.
When is it time to replace?
-
How long should I use my medication cup?
The medication cups provided in your kit are reusable nebulizer cups. With daily use, your reusable nebulizer cup needs to be replaced every 6 months. You may have also received an additional medication cup from your local hospital or doctor’s office after receiving a breathing treatment. These cups are most likely the disposable variety, which are good for 2 weeks of use, maximum. For optimal performance, use the reusable nebulizer cups provided in your kit.
Advantages of Replacing Your Nebulizer Cup:
- Consistent medication delivery to the lungs
- Fast and efficient treatments
- Bacterial contamination can be reduced
-
When do I need to replace my filter?
Most filters last for the life of the machine, however, environmental conditions may affect the filter’s life expectancy. When new, your filter is bright white. Over time, your filter will slowly discolor. A filter should be checked every three months for discoloration. If the filter has turned gray, contact Neb Medical Services for a replacement.
-
How do I replace my filter?
Remove the filter cover (if applicable) on the front of your compressor by turning it counter clockwise. Remove the old filter and replace it with a new filter. Place the cap (if applicable) onto the front of your compressor and tighten the cover clockwise. NEVER WASH THE FILTER.
-
What is the warranty on my machine?
Your compressor has a five year warranty. The warranty does not cover failures due to accidents, abuse, misuse, alteration, theft, or failure to comply with Instructions for use.
